Ashiesh hails from Srinagar, Kashmir. He completed his Post-graduate studies at National School of Drama with specialisation in Acting in 2009. Before that he was actively involved with Amateur theatre work with Natrang theatre group (Jammu) and Asmita theatre group (Delhi).
Ashiesh has done a one-year long Residency Course on Butoh Theatre with a Butoh Master Rizome Lee (Japan), participated in a Clown workshop conducted by Angela Decastro in London, got specialised Training in Chorus Theatre Under Micheal Brown (USA), and on Jerzy Grotowski`s Laboratory theatre by Khalid Tyabji and Yola Cykuntis. He has also trained for Thang-ta, a form of martial arts of Manipur and another traditional martial art form called Chhau Nritya and learnt stunts from a senior stunt director Raghu Hassan. He has attended workshops on Yakshagana, Kathakali and Kalripattu.
He has acted in more than 50 plays and has worked with well-known Theatre Directors from India as well as abroad like Ovliyakuli Khodhyakuli (Uzbekistan), Michal Brown(USA), Amy Russel(UK), Abhilash Pillai, Mfundo Tshazibane (South Africa). Apart from performing with National School of Drama Repertory Company of India he has participated in many Theatre festivals in India and abroad including Global Alliance of Theatre schools as well as ATEC theatre festival in Beijing, China.
Ashish has directed many plays and is also the Founder and Artistic Director of a theatre group “RangRoots”, ‘Theatre in Exile’ which is working for the promotion and development of Theatre art in Jammu and Kashmir. He has also worked as an Assistant Director in a feature film KAALAKAANDI and was last working as an Assistant Director in a feature film directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Ashiesh has vast teaching experience. He is a Visiting Faculty at The Drama School, Mumbai and Natrang, Jammu, He has also taught at Anupam Kher`s Actor Prepares, Mumbai. He has conducted workshops in Jammu by organised by N.S.D., Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and Jammu University. He has conducted an acting workshop at 7th International Butoh Theatre festival in Dharamshala, another at Kullu, [H.P.] and also at Central school of Performing Arts, Beijing, China.
